Our inspiration to transform

A few years ago, Limon Rotary Club was approached with a special request — to create a veterans memorial honoring one of Limon’s finest, Don Morrison. Don flew 13 missions as a bombardier aboard a B-17 during World War II, and for decades his stories and service inspired our community. We believed it was time to create a lasting tribute in his honor.

As we began researching ideas, we quickly realized that many extraordinary members of our community had answered the call to serve our country, protecting the freedoms we enjoy today. From that vision, the Eastern Colorado Veteran's War Memorial was born — a memorial dedicated not only to Don Morrison, but to all men and women who have served or are currently serving in the United States military.

This project is more than a memorial. It is designed to be a place of remembrance, reflection, and education for future generations. Through interactive historical displays and timelines, visitors — especially students — will have the opportunity to experience history in a meaningful and personal way by learning the who, where, when, and most importantly, why behind America’s military conflicts and sacrifices.

Located at the entrance of Pershing Cemetery, the memorial will feature historical stories from every major American war, honor those who gave their lives in service to our country, and recognize veterans and active-duty service members from our region.

While no memorial can replace those we have lost, our hope is that this tribute will preserve the legacy of America’s soldiers and remind future generations of the courage, sacrifice, and dedication shown throughout our nation’s history.
